Nitrous Oxide is one of the lowest forms of sedation available in our office. It is an inhaled gas that is administered with oxygen. It is administered to the patients through a mask placed over the patient’s nose. For children the mask is scented to make the experience more pleasant. The flow of the gas is monitored by the doctor at all times.
Approaching the end of the procedure the Nitrous is shut off and the patient is allowed to recover with only oxygen until the doctor is comfortable with discharging the patient. There is no need for a seperate driver to accompany the patient at the completion of the visit as the patient is fully awake and able to resume normal daily activities.
